Screening Instruments

           In addition to the comprehensive Youth Assessment Tool, Northpointe Licensing gives                              Melissa access to several other validated risk assessment tools outlined below:

1.  Initial Screening 

          A  file review provides information necessary to gain a starting point for where the client is

          and what his/her most salient criminogenic needs are.

​

​

2.  Detention Screening

          This tool is available for use if detention during court action is in question.  The instrument 

          also provides a framework for establishing what type of detention and/or placement is most 

          appropriate based on the offenders' current and past history.

​

​

3Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale       

          This validated instrument determines the youth's level of risk for suicide

​

​

4 Youth Risk-Needs Assessment - Risk Scales

          Once the Northpointe, Inc. Youth Assessment has been administered, criminogenic needs

          can be assessed by reviewing the scales rating in 6 relevant categories (Peers, Personality,

          Risk Behaviors, Education, Family and Living Situation.

5.  Adult Risk-Needs Assessment showing Risk Scales

          The Adult Assessment looks at both historical data and current function

​

​

6.   UNCOPE

          This tool assesses a youth's drug and/or alcohol use and its impairment on their life. 

          Screening implements treatment recommendations if the score meets a threshold.

​

7.  What I Want to Work On (WIWTWO)  

          This tool assesses a youth's motivation to change risk behaviors, or identifies what the youth

          perceives are his/her issues of concern.  

          Questions address:

          1)  Importance  -  what the youth sees as important to address

          2)  Confidence  -  in their ability to make actual change

          3)  Readiness    -  to address or change a behavior/behaviors

           *This tool is founded on the principles of Prochaska and DiClimente's Stages of Change*
